About the event

Before the movie became a global smash, The Sapphires was a powerhouse of Australian theatre and it’s returning to the Bille Brown Theatre Brisbane for a strictly limited season. This is an absolute must-see for families with older children and teens, and one of the most important live theatre Brisbane productions on right now.

This incredible true story follows four Yorta Yorta women who formed a soul group and travelled to Vietnam to sing for the troops. It’s packed with Motown classics like Stop! In the Name of Love and Respect, but it also carries a deep emotional punch tackling the Stolen Generations and the Vietnam War with equal measures of heart and humour.

The talent on stage is world-class, with voices that’ll give you goosebumps from the opening number to the final bow. It’s a quintessentially Australian theatre story that manages to be both genuinely educational and a total riot of a night out. The sequins are excellent too, for what it’s worth.

If you want live entertainment Brisbane that offers more than just spectacle something that stirs the soul and sparks real conversations on the drive home then get the family along to this one. Soul music with a very big heart, and one of the standout Brisbane performing arts experiences of the season.

Age Recommendation: Recommended for ages 12 and older.

Please Note: This production contains coarse language, adult themes, and depictions of racism, war and violence, and the use of theatrical haze. It also contains culturally sensitive content and may include images of those who have passed.
