Hayes Theatre Co Unveils Its Biggest Season Yet: Hayes in New Places

Hayes Theatre Co is going bigger in 2027 with its most ambitious season to date, aptly named “Hayes in New Places.” As Artistic Directors Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer prepare for their final year at the helm, the beloved Potts Point company is expanding beyond its home venue for the first time, taking on two major Sydney locations while still delivering a full slate of shows at the Hayes.

Leading the charge is Phar Lap: The Electro-Swing Musical, returning for an expanded run at Carriageworks from 8 July to 8 August, starring Joel Granger and directed by Sheridan Harbridge. The award-winning hit, winner of three 2025 Sydney Theatre Awards, heads off on a national tour after its Sydney season. Tickets are on sale now from $79.

Also new for 2027 is Mack The Knife, a bold, world premiere reimagining of The Threepenny Opera staged at the Foundry Theatre inside Sydney Lyric, The Star. Created by Richard Carroll, Victoria Falconer and Jordan Shea, the venue transforms into Peachums, an immersive bar and criminal hideout where audiences become part of the story alongside characters like Macheath and Polly. Back at the Hayes, families and theatre lovers can look forward to eight productions across the year:

• Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door (from 13 January) – a cabaret concert celebrating the Australian showbiz legend’s songbook
• Lucky Stiff (from 12 February) – a madcap musical farce from Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty
• House of Rot (from 23 April) – a return season starring Paul Capsis and Adam Noviello
• Swept Away (from 22 May, Australian Premiere) – a folk-rock survival epic featuring music by the Avett Brothers
• Next to Normal (from 10 July) – the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical
• Così fan tutte (from 13 August) – a vibrant new staging of Mozart’s comic opera
• Be More Chill (from 14 September) – the cult sci-fi coming-of-age musical
• Flowers for Mrs Harris (from 29 October, Australian Premiere) – starring Rachael Beck

The company’s popular Festival of New Work returns for a fourth year, now extended to three weeks, alongside the newly renamed cabaret festival, Flare (formerly the Winter Cabaret Festival), running in June. Audience favourites also return throughout the year, including three Neglected Musicals seasons (1776, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Dames at Sea), plus areTheys at the Hayes, Victoria Falconer’s Parlour Night, Musical Bang Bang, Home Grown, An Evening With and Carols by Cabaret.

Subscriptions for the 2027 season went on sale Monday 14 September, with single tickets releasing in the months ahead. All ticket prices are subject to change, with discounts available for subscribers.
