Kamay Botany Bay National Park is a place of immense historical and natural significance, located on the southern headlands of Botany Bay. The park is a sanctuary where the story of Australia’s Indigenous peoples and the arrival of the First Fleet converge with stunning coastal scenery. It is a dual-purpose destination for both deep historical reflection and outdoor adventure.

 

Key Attractions & Activities

  • Captain Cook’s Landing Place: The most significant site in the park, this area commemorates the 1770 landing of the HMS Endeavour. Visitors can explore monuments, walking paths, and interpretative signs that tell the story from both Indigenous and European perspectives.
  • Whale Watching: The park’s dramatic headlands offer one of the best land-based vantage points in Sydney to spot migrating humpback and southern right whales from June to November. The Cape Solander lookout is particularly popular.
  • Coastal Walking Tracks: Explore the park’s diverse landscapes on a variety of walking trails. The Burrawang Track offers a peaceful bushwalk, while the Commemoration Flat Track leads to the historical monuments.
  • Beaches & Fishing: The calm, clear waters of Kurnell Beach are ideal for safe swimming and paddleboarding, while the rocky foreshore is a well-known spot for fishing.
  • Picnicking & BBQs: The park is equipped with numerous picnic tables and electric barbecues, making it a perfect spot for a day out with family and friends.

  • Toilets & Drinking Water: Public toilet blocks and water fountains are available at key locations.
  • Parking: Ample parking is available, but be aware that a vehicle entry fee applies to enter the park. The fee goes towards park maintenance and conservation.
  • Visitor Centre: A visitor center provides more information on the park’s history, walking trails, and natural features.
