Description
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the region’s premier cultural institution, set on a picturesque site at Bullocky Point. It houses a world-class collection of Aboriginal art, showcasing the deep spiritual and historical connections of the First Nations people. One of its most famous exhibits is Sweetheart, a legendary 5.1-meter saltwater crocodile known for attacking boats in the 1970s. The museum also features a poignant exhibition on Cyclone Tracy, providing a detailed look at the 1974 disaster that reshaped Darwin. Visitors can explore displays of maritime history, Southeast Asian textiles, and the unique natural history of the Top End. MAGNT serves as a research hub and hosts the prestigious National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) annually. With its rotating gallery spaces and engaging educational programs, it offers a comprehensive look at the intersection of art, history, and science in Northern Australia, complemented by a cafe with stunning harbor views.
