Get Ready for Ogre-Sized Fun as Shrek The Musical Swamps Australia

Everybody’s favourite green ogre is heading Down Under, with Shrek The Musical set to tour Australia this summer in a spectacular live stage production packed with laughs, heart and happily-ever-afters for audiences of all ages.

Bringing the beloved DreamWorks classic from screen to stage, Shrek The Musical transforms the world of Far Far Away into a bold, colourful theatrical adventure, complete with dazzling sets, show-stopping musical numbers and a cast of unforgettable characters. Touring Victoria and New South Wales from December 2025, the production will visit Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Frankston and Sydney, making it a standout school holiday option for families.

A Fairytale Adventure with Heart

At its core, the story follows Shrek, a grumpy ogre enjoying a quiet life in his swamp, until a parade of banished fairytale misfits turns everything upside down. Determined to reclaim his home, Shrek sets off on an unlikely quest alongside the endlessly talkative Donkey, striking a deal with the diminutive Lord Farquaad to rescue Princess Fiona from a fire-breathing dragon.

What unfolds is a joyful, laugh-out-loud journey about friendship, courage and self-acceptance, reminding audiences that true beauty comes from embracing exactly who you are.

Big Broadway Energy, Touring Australia

Produced by Showcase Entertainment Group, the team behind Madagascar The Musical and The Cat in the Hat, this touring production delivers Broadway-calibre vocals, choreography and production values. The professional cast of 16 performers is supported by more than 20 crew members, with million-dollar sets, intricately designed costumes and immersive lighting bringing cinematic scale to the stage.

“Our version of Shrek The Musical features a talented professional cast of 16 actors. The set alone is worth over $1 million and was used on both the UK and American tours. It even comes with a spectacular dragon that has its own 40-foot shipping container,” said producer Layton Lillas. “Believe me when I say that everyone who comes will be blown away.”

A Family Favourite with Meaning

Designed for children aged four and up, Shrek The Musical balances big laughs with meaningful messages. Through humour, music and larger-than-life characters, the show promotes empathy, inclusion and resilience, encouraging young audiences to celebrate individuality while enjoying a truly magical theatre experience.

Running for approximately two hours across two acts, with a 20-minute intermission, the production is family-friendly, accessible and packed with visual surprises. Tickets start from $50 per person, with group discounts available, making it an easy win for holiday entertainment.

With ogre-sized energy, heart-warming moments and plenty of fairytale mayhem, Shrek The Musical is shaping up to be a highlight of the summer theatre season.
