How to keep your little ones active at HOME!

The recent COVID-19 nightmare has meant that more and more parents just like you are being asked to self isolate or practice social distancing. Not only can this take a toll on you & your little one’s mental health, but it also means they might not be getting outside as much as they used to. I think we all know how much energy toddlers have. Your reality is probably a little one trying to let off energy around the house, instead of at the local park.

We’ve put together some fun and engaging activities that your kids will LOVE, even if they’re stuck inside.

Kid’s Cosmic Yoga

Kid’s Cosmic Yoga is a yoga, mindfulness and relaxation channel designed for kids! There’s hundreds of videos designed to teach your little one about yoga, while also keeping them active and entertained. I know plenty of mums who struggle getting through a yoga class, let alone a toddler with a very short attention span! Hop on to the channel here and let your little one experience the world of princesses, animals & magical worlds. Oh, did we mention – there’s a Frozen themed yoga video…(sorry in advance!)

DIY Obstacle Course

Okay, this one takes a little bit of time and planning, but trust us, it’s worth it. If you’ve got a free 5 minutes, set up an obstacle course around the house. Avoiding any dangerous areas (we really don’t want kids running past the kitchen knives…), and set up an obstacle course for you kids to complete. Shuffle some chairs, maybe create a tunnel using a sheet, spread some cushions out on the floor – and voilà!

Set a timer and see who can complete the course the fastest. We’ve got a feeling that dad might feel like participating too!

Online Dance Classes

If your toddler can’t stand still, head over to Youtube and type in “Dance Along for Toddlers”. You’ll find a collection of videos to let your little one have a boogie in the living room. And hey – why not join in while you’re at it (we know, it’s bad, but you’re probably starting to lose your mind a little bit anyway!). There’s a range of songs, including nursery rhymes and themed dances.

Active Games

Try and pick games to play with your toddler that keep them active. We hope some of these wear them out, especially if they require mental and physical attention. Most of these can be done without equipment or only require a little bit of imporvesaiton!
We love these ideas:

  • Totem tennis
  • Keep the balloon up
  • Learning to throw and catch
  • Simon says
  • Hopscotch
  • Hide and seek
  • Limbo
  • Chalk shape drawing
  • Eye Spy
  • Scavenger Hunt
